What’s in a name?
The co-founders of CHARLY Magazine are eager to hear what our future contributors and readers think about the final magazine name! Much like new parents decided on the name of their first born, we wanted the name to have a meaning, to be cute, likeable, and represent the magazine’s personality in a unique way.
It was definitely a grueling process to get to the final name – CHARLY!!! As a derivitive of Charlotte, the name means “tiny and feminine, but strong and courageous”. We found this specifically:
Charlotte is a feminine form of the name Charles; though often interpreted as “woman” or “feminine,” Charlotte might equally be interpreted as “masculine.” Many texts reconcile these differences by defining Charlotte as “strong woman.”
DID YOU KNOW:
Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina, was named after the Queen consort of George III – Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. There is a dessert named the Charlotte, which may have been named after Queen Charlotte.
‘Charlotte’s Web’ is a children’s story by EB White. Charlotte was a tiny but courageous spider in the story!

OF COURSE WE HAD TO BE UNIQUE, so we chose our own spelling. (a “y”).
So our first two questions to our auidence are:
- What other noteworthy Charly’s exist? (we thought of Charlie’s Angels and of course Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ) BONUS: Did you know we had an old school vs new school options for both of these images?
2. Most importantly, what do you think of the name?
Post your comments for us here! You never know,
we may publish your comment on our site when it launches later this summer!
